IFC to Support Tanzania in PPP Project Development and Capacity Building

The Executive Director of the Public-Private Partnership Centre (PPP Centre), David Kafulila, has held talks with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Regional Director for East Africa, Mary Porter, to explore strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening PPP project implementation in Tanzania.

The discussions focused on key priority areas of cooperation, with both parties agreeing to initiate a partnership in providing technical expertise, particularly in PPP project preparation through Transaction Advisory Services, as well as enhancing the capacity of government institutions in managing PPP initiatives.

Speaking during the meeting, Kafulila expressed appreciation for IFC’s continued support, emphasizing the Government’s commitment to implementing the National Development Vision 2050 by attracting increased private sector investment through PPP frameworks.

He highlighted priority sectors for the collaboration, including energy, transport, and water, critical drivers of economic growth.
Kafulila further noted the progress made by the PPP Centre in building local expertise, citing a report by the UK-based APMG International which ranks Tanzania 9th globally among the top 10 countries with the highest number of certified PPP professionals. In Africa, Tanzania ranks third after Nigeria and South Africa.

On her part, Mary Porter welcomed the partnership and pledged IFC’s support in strengthening government capacity, particularly in contract drafting and negotiation, as well as financial modelling key areas expected to enhance the quality and efficiency of PPP projects in the country.
