PPP Centre and TPSF Sign Landmark Agreement to Unlock Investment Opportunities
“Private Sector Should Stop Waiting for Government Tenders,” Says Kafulila
The Public-Private Partnership Centre (PPP Centre) and the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at facilitating greater participation of businesses in large-scale development projects across the country.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Executive Director of the PPP Centre, Mr. David Kafulila, said the partnership seeks to translate the vision of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan of giving the private sector a bigger role in driving economic growth. Kafulila explained that the Centre’s core responsibility is to ensure that PPP projects are structured in a way that benefits all stakeholders, including investors, private companies, the Government, and the wider community.
“Our additional responsibility is to promote this agenda to government authorities so they can see the importance of implementing projects outside their budget frameworks, while at the same time helping the private sector understand the available opportunities… they should not remain dependent on the traditional approach of waiting for government tenders before investing,” Kafulila emphasized.
He further noted that through the MoU, TPSF offices will serve as a bridge between the PPP Centre and the business community by providing timely and accurate information on available investment opportunities.
Currently, between 33 and 35 projects are under various stages of processing.
On his part, TPSF Acting Director for Private Sector Development, Mr. Deogratius Massawe, assured the public that the agreement would be implemented in practice and would not remain merely a written commitment.
Massawe also outlined TPSF’s strategy to engage major investors and business owners with sufficient capital and provide them with direct awareness and education on investment opportunities under the Public-Private Partnership framework.
